Ellsworth C. Jensen's Obituary
Racine – Ellsworth Christian Jensen passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on March 4, 2015.
Ellsworth was born in Racine to the late Soren and Anna (nee: Jensen) Jensen on October 3, 1925. He attended grade school at Mygatts Elementary and graduated from Washington Park High School. He worked for his father’s trucking business before he joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1945 where he was stationed in China.
Following World War II, Ellsworth attended the Racine County Normal School for teachers. He began his teaching career in a one room school house, Fritchen School on Highway 20. He continued to teach for 29 years at various schools such as: Treadwell, Bartlett, Franksville School, Sturtevant School and lastly retiring from Gifford Elementary. In July of 1976, he married Jane (nee: Ogrodowski) Szymanski. They were together for 34 years until she preceded him in death on October 14, 2010.
After his retirement, he volunteered for 20 years at the former Holy Name School tutoring students. Ellsworth also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis, REA, WEA and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Ellsworth had a passion for traveling the United States and Canada. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cards. He was a big lover of dogs. His favorites were Tippy and Snickers.
Ellsworth is survived by his step-son, Joseph (Louise) Szymanski; grandchildren, Nichole (Trent)Langness, Dr. Natalie Szymanski, Michelle Kesich, Daniel Kesich and Linda (Dale) Olszewski; great grandchildren, Cody, Sydney, Ashley, Toby, Madison and Maxwell; niece, Bonnie (Bill) Halsey; special niece, Barbara (Don) Petersen; other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Camille (Emil) Kesich and his sister, Elaine Jensen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Father William Dietzler celebrating. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass.
