Einer Berthelsen's Obituary
Racine - Mr. Einer Berthelsen, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, February 15, 2008.
Einer Berthelsen was born in Racine to the late John and Nan (nee: Madris) Berthelsen on January 7, 1917. Racine was his lifelong home, but he spent 37 years as a missionary in India. He was united in marriage to Mary Pauline Holgerson on September 12, 1957 in Amalner, India.
Mr. Berthelsen was an active, life long member of Calvary Memorial Church, a missionary with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM), and a member of Racine Churchmen's Club. He was an ordained minister, and missionary with TEAM from October 1945 until September 1982. Mr. Berthelsen was instrumental in helping establish many TEAM churches in Bombay State, India. There he served as the Field Director and Superintendent of the missions' ministry. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. Most importantly, his life long desire and last wish was that people would believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and be saved (Acts 16:31).
Einer is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary; two children, Nancy Menges and Marilynn (Glenn) Schnuckel both of Kenosha; one son-in-law, Tim Olander of Milwaukee; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Berthelsen and Porzia Wilkinson; and nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey; oldest daughter, Judy; one brother; two sisters and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral service will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Nathan Joy James officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 am until service time. Memorials may be directed to either Calvary Memorial Church missions or to TEAM.
