Edna Clausen's Obituary
Mt. Pleasant- Mrs. Edna L. (nee: Stange) Clausen, 93, passed away on January 22, 2010 at Ridgewood Care Center.
Edna was born in Burlington to the late Albert and Emma (nee: Miller) Stange on March 11, 1916 and lived over 85 years in Racine. In 1938, she was united in marriage to Harry Clausen at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Edna was a 1935 graduate of Horlick High School and as a young girl she worked for the Ramsey family as a babysitter. She then went on to become their housekeeper and cook. In later years, she worked at Hamilton Beach. She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church since her marriage and was also a beautiful seamstress who made everything from draperies to clothes for her daughters and their dolls. She did lots of different stitchery and in later years she started doing magnificent counted cross stitch pictures which are treasured by her family. She also enjoyed golf, reading, and crossword puzzles. Edna was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Edna is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws, Diane (George) Gissell of Bailey's Harbor and Marilyn (Bill) Higgs of Ladysmith, British Columbia; four grandchildren, David Gissell, Tim (Amy Bolin) Gissell, Brad Gissell, and Amelia Perkins; six-great grandchildren, Timmy Gissell, Shannon Gissell, Christopher Gissell, Kayla Lord and Jessica Bielke; four great-great grandchildren, Madison Gissell, Brooke Bobick, Teagan Bobick, and Preston Gissell; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Kenny (Saralee) Clausen and Nancy Clausen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; her parents; step-father, Karl Albrecht; brother, Donald Stange; grandson, Demian Perkins; brother-in-law Leonard Clausen; sister-in-laws Hazel Woodward and Helen Rasmussen; and in-laws Peter (Kristi) Clausen.
Memorial services for Edna will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 27, 2009 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (3319 Washington Ave) with Rev. Crystal Steinberg officiating. Private inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
