Donald George Took's Obituary
Racine - Donald George Took, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 15, 2016, at 5:15PM.
Don was born in Racine, WI, November 14, 1930, son of Edward Lynn and Eleanor (nee: Anderson) Took. Don met his dear wife at Washington Park High School and was united in marriage to the love of his life, GloriaMae Rigby on July 12, 1952 at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, now Fellowship Baptist Church and celebrated 64 years of loving marriage.
He attended Union Gospel Center Church. GloriaMae’s father taught Sunday School there and her deceased brother-in-law Frank Sterbin Sr. was pastor. Don was a devoted born again believer in Jesus Christ and a kindhearted loving uncle to his dear nephews, Frank Sterbin and Allan Sterbinsky, nieces, Ali Johnson, Faith Baci, Sylvia Stevens and April Sterbin. Each one held a special place in his heart.
Don was employed by J I Case Company for 40 years and retired on March 1, 1998 and was a member of the 20 year club. He was a charter member of the Union Gospel Center Church (now First Evangelical Free Church) where he served the Lord and was very active in many positions which included being on the church board. Don was a loving, caring and compassionate man who cared for his dear wife, family, friends and church. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife were campers and loved to take trips on vacation and weekends. They enjoyed being with their nieces and nephews and even took some of them to college. Don was a woodworking craftsman and handyman and, with his father, built his own home in 1954.
Don is survived by his Aunt Sandra (James) Anderson, sisters-in-law, Janice (Lyle) Rigby, Peggy (Matthew) Rigby of Colorado, brother-in-law Elton Bertram and Lee (June) Phillips, cousins Darla Jeanne Rogge, Alice Tice, Frank Took, of Minnesota, Tom(Jodi) Anderson, Terry (Jody) Anderson and many dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his dear parents, Edward and Eleanor Took, Uncle Maynard (Irma) Anderson, Dorothy Krueger, Leroy Anderson and James Anderson.
Funeral Services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until the time the service. Rev. Dechard Stevens and Rev. Edward Baci will be officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park following the service. Memorials have been suggested to WVCY in lieu of flowers.
