Burlington – Mr. Donald C. Smith passed away at the Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa on April 22, 2012.
Donald was born in Fort Ord, CA to Charles and Sharon (nee: Furman) Smith on March 19, 1960. Donald was born with a congenital kidney disorder that he had fought valiantly all his life. He had been raised in Franksville and on April 3, 1990, Donald had received his first kidney transplant from his sister, Kimi. Donald had been reborn to a new, healthy life that he had never experienced before.
Donald had met his future wife, Sandra L. Marks, on a coincidence as she was passing through Milwaukee and they found out that they both had the same birth date. On April 9, 2001, they were united in marriage in Racine. Together they enjoyed motorcycling and boating. He also enjoyed fishing even though he had no luck with it.
Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandra and her children, Paul, Rhonda, Carl and Thad Babiarz; his father, Charles Smith; his brother, Terry Smith; two sisters, Larinda Mercier and Kimi (Mick) Conners; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Smith on September 27, 1999.
Per Don's wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial celebration will be held at Greg's Catering & Don's Market Inc., 3120 Roberts Street in Franksville on April 26, 2012 at 5:30 PM. Private inurnment will be held at Caledonia Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin, 16655 W Bluemound Road, Ste. 240, Brookfield, WI 53005-5923.
