Clyde Klicpera's Obituary
Mt. Horeb, formerly of Racine - On the evening of March 28, 2007 the Lord called Clyde R. Klicpera, 92, to eternal rest. Clyde was born on June 3, 1914 in Racine, son of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth (nee: Janecek) Klicpera.
Upon graduating from Horlick High School, Klicpera attended the University of Wisconsin and in 1938 graduated from Marquette University. On July 31, 1943 in Racine, he was united in marriage to the former Grace S. Stewart. He joined Standard Oil Company as an industrial engineer in their Green Bay Division and later returned as a sales engineer with Nordberg Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee.
During World War II, Klicpera was an officer in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the central and South Pacific theaters where his unit received the Presidential Unit Citation. He later was assigned to the Marine Corps headquarters in Washington DC until the end of the war.
Klicpera formed Conco Midwest, a construction firm engaged in industrial highway and airfield construction until 1980. He then became chairman and interim president of North Side Bank until he retired in 1983.
In community affairs, he was a past president of the American Cancer Society, served many years on the Board of Directors of the Racine Zoological Society, founded the Wisconsin Zoo Associates, and was a life member and past adjutant of Post 1391 Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Marine Corps League, and a member of Racine Bible Church for more that 50 years.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Grace; his daughter, Janice Hile of Madison; his grandchildren, Mark Hile of Cedarburg, Molly and Megan Hile of Madison; and his great grandchildren, Vimala and Deva of Madison. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark in 1966 and his sister, Myrtle Rasmussen.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday afternoon, April 2, 2007 at 1:30 pm with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30 pm until service time. Memorials may be directed to Racine Bible Church or to the Jesus Film Project.
