Catherine "Cathie" Petersen's Obituary
Mount Pleasant-Catherine "Cathie" Petersen, 80, passed away at her residence on Friday, June 3, 2022.
Cathie was born to the late Christ and Marie (nee Zazaski) Gianforte on January 14, 1942, in Racine. She was united in marriage to Leroy Petersen on October 6, 1979, also in Racine. They were married for 3 years until Leroy’s passing in January of 1982.
Cathie graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1960. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for several HVAC companies. Cathie retired in 2009. She was highly involved at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She volunteered as an usher and as a bereavement counselor for the church. Cathie volunteered at numerous other places such as the Racine Theatre Guild, Preservation Racine, and the Racine Historical Society. Cathie loved helping others and always had a smile on her face.
Cathie will be deeply missed by her daughters: Laura (Don) Smith and Debra Petersen; grandchildren: Andew (April) Smith and Kelly (Nick) Enright; great-grandchildren: Lexi, Ann, Zoe, and Eva; sisters: Christy (Robert) Schliesmann and Margaret “Marge” Gianforte; along with several other relatives and friends.
Cathie is predeceased by her husband, Leroy Petersen; and her stepmother, Anne Gianforte.
A funeral mass for Cathie will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Terry Huebner officiating. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32 in Racine.
