Early in 1980, Carl and Carolyn traveled half-way around the world to devote 5 weeks to assisting us (Dick & Char Griffiths) on our remote mission station in the mountains of former Dutch New Guinea, now called Papua, Indonesia. Carl used his carpenter skills to build an addition to Dick's large garage, built to accommodate the tractor mower for which Carl had led in funding and purchase here in Racine. His apple skills also assisted the growers of the fledgling apple "orchard" there. Carolyn was invaluable to Char, helping in various tasks in the literacy program, plus sewing and gardening, cheerfully dealing with a smokey wood stove for meal preparation. Both we and the Hatam Christian tribesmen were blessed by their cheerfulness in spite of not knowing the language, and thoughtful kindnesses to everyone. Many Hatam believers in Heaven, are warmly welcoming their kind American friend...now unhampered with language barriers!
