Bente Lofton's Obituary
Mount Pleasant - Bente Lofton, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, surrounded by her family at Aurora Medical Center Mount Pleasant.
Bente was born on September 11, 1944, to the late Henning and Dagmar (nee Sorensen) Jacobsen on their family farm in Morlid, Danmark.
Bente came to the United States on a ship with her parents, brother, and sister on May 5, 1953. The family settled in Racine, Wisconsin, which has been their home ever since. Upon arriving in America, Bente faced the challenge of not knowing English, but her determination allowed her to learn the language after starting school.
As a child, Bente’s creativity shone through in her play. She would craft animals from pinecones and sticks, showcasing her resourcefulness and imagination. She attended Park High School, where she met the love of her life, Daniel Lofton Sr. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of love and partnership.
Bente was immensely proud of her Danish heritage and carried its traditions and values throughout her life. She found joy in fishing, always baiting her own hook and removing her own catch. One of her most cherished traditions was the yearly family vacations to Brekke's Fireside Resort in Rhinelander, a tradition she started, and which became a source of countless fond memories for her family.
Bente found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was sharing a meal, watching classic black-and-white movies, or listening to music. Her warmth, humor, and love enriched the lives of everyone around her.
Bente’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful example of love, resilience, and joy.
Bente will be deeply missed by her husband, Daniel Lofton Sr.; children: Randy (Rhonda) Lofton, Andrea Sheehan, Dan (Kristin) Lofton Jr., and Brian Lofton; grandchildren: Sarah (John), Lisa (Clint), Bekah (Devin), Randy, Christi (Max), Cara, Caitlin, Samantha, Daniel, Joey, and Morgan; great-grandchildren: William, Amiyah, Elina, Erikah, Leah, Ryker, and Amelia; brother, Torkild (Mel) Jacobsen; nieces: Amy and Grecille; nephews: Matt and David; special friends: Bente Ellis “Big Bente” and Donna Muraski; along with many other relatives and friends.
