Ben Holmquist's Obituary
Mr. Holmquist passed away on Tuesday evening, May 13, 2008 at Ridgewood Healthcare Center. He was born in Glen Flora, WI on April 26, 1915 to the late William and Ida (nee: Carlson) Holmquist. He lived most of his life in Racine.
He served in WWII in E.T.O. Europe with 38th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division landing in the invasion of Normandy.
He was united in marriage to the former Ione Polanski in Milwaukee on Dec. 25, 1947, she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1986. He was united in marriage to the former Hildur Polanski in Hawaii on Oct. 21, 1992; she preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2003. He formerly worked at Walkers and Jacobsens, retiring from Jacobsens in 1980.
He was a member of Holy Communion Church and belong to several retiree groups. He was a member of the V.F.W. post 1391 Racine.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Holmquist; three grandsons, Ben, Dan and Mathew, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle and three brothers, William, Carl and Vic.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church 2000 W 6th St. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Barrow officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home 1212 Lathrop Ave on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
