Melvin O'Hare's Obituary
Mt. Pleasant - Mr. Melvin G. O'Hare, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 19, 2011.
Melvin was born in Waukegan, IL to the late Howard and Margaret (nee: Tallman) O'Hare on February 1, 1935. He lived in Racine for 39 years. In Waukegan, IL, he was united in marriage to Barbara Bach on July 14, 1957.
Mr. O'Hare graduated high school with aspirations to receive a college degree before turning 60 years old. He did so in 1991 at the age of 59. He was employed by W. T. Grant Company as a manager until 1973 and then worked for the J.I. Case Company as a buyer. Mr. O'Hare was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years from 1952 until 1956.
Mr. O'Hare was an active member of First Evangelical Free Church. There he served in multiple positions, most recently as Chairman of the Board. He was actively involved in Urban Camp at Timber-lee Christian Center, AWANA, Child Evangelism, Junior Achievement and Prison Fellowship. He enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling, cooking out, woodworking, playing cards and games with his family and friends. He was a constant helper with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. He had a great sense of humor and was proud of his Irish heritage.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children, JoLynn (David) Oten, Donald O'Hare and Kris (Kevin) Liesner; one daughter-in-law, Victoria O'Hare; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers, Marvin (Cathy) O'Hare, Eileen (Miller) Bragg, Esther (A.C.) McNutt, Robert Wilson, and Jack (Shelley) Wilson; many other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael O'Hare in 2002.
A memorial ceremony will be held at First Evangelical Free Church on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11 am with Pastor John Bodnar officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9 am until the time of ceremony. Memorials may be directed to First Evangelical Free Church which will be used for new hymnals.
