We grew up in the same neighborhood. Bruce was 3-4yrs older than me. I went to Case HS the year it opened (as a 7th grader in a special academic program) so I rode the bus with Drifter. I was a favorite target for the older boys being so much younger. Bruce decided he was my protector. I dreaded the days when he'd cut class.
I was incredibly shocked when I heard about "Drifter" Bruce's passing. He and I grew up together since Jr High at Mitchell and at Case HS. I have many fond memories growing up in the 60s. We had a band and Bruce sang lead. We rode motorcycles together, me on my Triumph and Bruce on his old beat-up Harley 45. We had a lot of fun.
I left Racine in 1969 and entered the Air Force. I moved around a lot and lost track of all of my old friends. I've been able to find 1 friend and was searching for Bruce when I found this obit.
Though we chose different paths, we were both successful in our endeavors. Him in his service to the Lord, and me in the Military and College. I have missed him over the years and now I'll miss him more.
He was a true friend.
I remember Bruce only as "Drifter". But when I saw his picture on this obituary it brought tears to my eyes. How I praise the Lord that this dear young man joined with Christ is the Answer team and that he apparently continued on to follow JESUS. My husband, Jerold, taught the Bible to this team of "Jesus People". Now "Drifter" and "Jerry Romprey" are together with our precious Lord and Saviour. My loving thoughts and prayers go out to the wife, children and all who remain. "But until THEN our hearts will go on singing!" Amen.
Brother Bruce was a very special man. Had a heart of gold and loved life. He will be missed in so many ways. Always looked forward to a church service at rendezvous with him. He will surely be missed. Peace be with you.
